Privacy FAQs

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is utilizing Fūsus to create stronger public-private collaborations and enable businesses and community members to work more closely with law enforcement. Public safety agencies depend on neighborhoods to mitigate and investigate crimes and be better equipped as first responders on the scene of critical incidents. The Fūsus system serves to increase community security while maintaining personal privacy.

REGISTRY

How much will it cost?

There is no cost associated with the Registry and it is a free, voluntary program for you to participate in.

Will you be watching my cameras all the time?

No we won’t. The Registry allows for us to request permission to view private cameras only if there is a critical incident in the form of a crime or an emergency in a nearby area. Systems will not be monitored at any time. Law enforcement has no direct access to privately owned cameras. Deputies will contact camera owners directly to request footage if needed for a specific event that happens in the vicinity if deemed useful and relevant. Cameras are also connected to a system with robust audit capabilities to promote transparency in the use and viewing of private cameras.

What happens if I move?

Moving doesn’t impact your registration if you are moving into the same jurisdiction. You will be able to go to your profile section and enter an updated address and additional information. If you move into another jurisdiction, we recommend that you contact your local agency and inquire about getting connected to their Fusus registry. If they do not have one, Fusus will reach out to your local law enforcement agency and attempt to begin a working relationship with them if they do not already have one.

How do I manage my account (Add Cameras, change contact info, etc.)?

You can log into your account and access your profile and change any information as well as add any additional information in regards to adding cameras, changing your contact information, and other details. Will they let me know if my cameras were helpful? Any and all information we can collect through the program in the event of a crime or an emergency is useful, however, we will not contact you personally to give updates on where critical incidents stand to reduce communication backlogs and miscommunication. We advise that you stay connected to our social media and the local news to be updated on where these events stand.

Does it matter what kind of cameras I have?

Any type of camera can be useful because of the diverse nature of crimes and emergencies.

Will anyone know if they use my video?

If the agency needs to use your footage, officers will be in contact to request footage. We can’t determine exactly how useful video might be until we examine it within the scope of our crime or emergency.

How can I unregister?

You can log in into your password-protect profile and change or delete your information from the registry.
